Michael Comerford Obituary

Michael Burke Comerford, 24, passed away on April 15, 2023.

Michael was born on Nov. 12, 1998, in Scranton, Pa., to his parents, Judy Knowles Comerford and Tom Comerford. From that day on, Michael was a source of love for his parents and siblings, Caroline (Paranjay), John (Elyse), Kathleen and twin sister, Mary; and paternal grandmother, Pauline Quinn Comerford; aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, John T. Comerford; and maternal grandparents, Robert J. and Helen Burke Knowles.

Michael idolized his brother. He was fiercely protective of his sisters. He wasn't complete without his twin sister, Mary, who was in every way his other half. Michael, in turn, was the center of his family's world. He had the funniest stories, the perfect one liner, and the best (or the worst) dance moves, depending on who you asked.

Michael was a man of many questions. He didn't just want to know how you are - he wanted to know who you are, and no question was too big or too small. Whether he talked to you for five minutes or, more often, an hour and a half, it was like you were the only person that mattered. Michael went beyond charm and charisma. Michael not only lit up a room - he pulled people into the room and made them shine.

It's that quality that made Michael such a loving, caring friend and sibling. Michael surrounded himself with the best, most sincere people, and he was unendingly loyal in return.

Outside of his family, there are few stories to tell about Michael that don't include his best friends, Tucker and Christian Schimelfenig ("the Schims"). From fifth grade on, they were more than friends - they were brothers. They had many adventures, some not as well thought-out as others. Their friendship shaped them each into the men they are today. The three of them lived by one motto: "Hakuna Matata" - No worries, troubles or problems.

In the places Michael felt most at home, he was quiet, thoughtful and affectionate. He could sit for hours, just happy to be in your presence. Michael enjoyed many hours sitting with his family and friends, putting his arms around them, and ending the evening by kissing his mother's head goodnight and signing off with a quick "Love ya."

Michael was a graduate of Our Lady of Peace School, Scranton Preparatory and St. Joseph's University. He was a student of life and mastered the art of friendship. These skills helped him to be successful in his profession at Ashton Carter.

Whether you met Michael once or 100 times, he left a lasting impression. His memory will live on forever in the people he loved.

A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Benedict's Church, 1849 Newton Ransom Blvd., Clarks Summit. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Benedict's Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Michael Comerford Memorial Foundation at Fidelity Bank. Please visit the funeral home website for information or to send an online condolence.

Judy,Tom and Family. We can not begin to express our feelings for all of you over your loss. To us you were one of the basketball families as that that is how we and our children met. Trey and Paris loved your twins beyond words and had nothing but smiles on their faces when speaking of them. Michael is irreplaceable but his love remains and will be eternally in the minds and hearts of everyone he knew, and especially in those of my children. God Bless you and your family.
