Michael Cook Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 30, 2025.
Michael James Cook Sr., 73, of Northampton, MA passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025 - though not before getting in one last sarcastic quip about the Red Sox and New York Giants. Mike spent his early days working tirelessly to support his family, eventually settling in Agawam, MA and opening two restaurants, wanting to help his community through comforting food and connection.

He spent his days working on crossword puzzles, offering wise advice to anyone within an earshot, and making sure no leftovers were wasted. He loved strong pots of coffee at all hours, playing the guitar, listening to music or sports radio whenever he had a chance, and sharing good jokes and warm memories by the beach, water, or baseball mound.

Michael's spirit and energy was infectious. He was the kind of man who taught you to passionately pursue a project, a business, education, or a new door to a brighter, happier future. Mike knew that life was going to throw the strangest curveballs and the toughest strikes, and despite being a good batter, you still may strike out. He showed his friends and family that starting over or trying something new takes courage, love, and the utmost strength.

Michael leaves behind three children with the late Unity T. Malloy whom inherited their brainy stubbornness and sense of humor: sons Michael J. Cook Jr of Holyoke, MA, and partner Alex Araica, David Cook of Holyoke, MA, and daughter Leah Cook and son-in-law Joseph Noyes of Enfield, CT. He leaves behind two adoringly clever grandsons, Michael T. Cook and Oliver E. Cook; a younger brother, James M. Cook, whom Michael loved more than anything; and two lovely nieces of his late beloved sister, Susan Larivee -- Kaila L. Chianciola of Agawam, MA, and Tanya Larivee Pugliano of Agawam, MA.

Michael's legacy is one of laughter, love, compassion, wit, and an endless supply of coffee and sports talk. He will be missed by so many, more than words could ever express.

The family formally invites you to a public celebration of life held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Bobbie J'z Restaurant (1668 Main Street, Agawam, MA, 01001) to honor and pay tribute to the life and legacy of Michael James Cook Sr.

I Met Mike I think in 1998 or 1999 I was working at Sixflags and went to his Restaurant for Breakfast few times a week. When the Sixflags were closed for the winter I asked him if he needed help. He said Sure. I need dishwasher I worked with him for years. He taught me lots about cooking and how to run the Grille and Fryolators. He was Also willing to pick me up from my house in Feeding Hills to go to work and drop me off. He helped me with many things. He had a Big heart. I always enjoyed working with him and his wife Unity. He was one of my best Boss and a good friend. My prayers goes out to his kids. Michael David and Leah and his Brother Jimmy and his family. Love you all Cook Family. Please let me know if you need anything. Keep in touch
