Michael Martin Cronquist

Michael Martin Cronquist (also known as Cronk, Mikey, and Uncle Big M), age 78, of Minneapolis, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mike was born February 18, 1947 in Minneapolis to Catherine Cronquist (née Curran) and Albert Cronquist. Michael, a proud union carpenter for more than 60 years, quite literally helped shaped the Twin Cities skyline. His work contributed to iconic projects including the IDS Center, the Metrodome, and the Gateway District-achievements he took great pride in.

Above all else, Mike was a lover of life. He deeply loved his family. He found joy fishing on Six Mile Lake, escaping Minnesota winters to warmer climates like Maui and Phoenix, and spending days at Canterbury Downs, where he "almost" hit it big more than once-and never stopped trying. Mike had a legendary charm and a lifelong appreciation for women; a true gentleman of his era, he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by many.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine Cronquist, father, and his brother, Daniel "Danny" Cronquist. Mike is survived by his daughters, Kerry Cauwels (Doug) and Katie Hatting (Michael); his sisters, Kathleen Cronquist, Mary Ellen Norby (Chief), and Patricia Tholen (Rick); five grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his longtime partner, LeAnn Gfrerer.

A memorial service will be held at 1PM Saturday, January 24, 2026 with visitation one hour prior at the Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel, 5000 West 50th Street & Highway 100. (952) 920-3996
