Michael "Mike" Culpert, also known as Big Daddy, aged 89, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2024, in Holly, Michigan. He was born on January 3, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan to Marvin and Carolyn Culpert.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Sawyer-Culpert, his children, Susan Nelson, Michael Culpert, Paul Culpert, Kevin Culpert, Kathleen Kirchner, Tammy Ward, Scott Wesley, and his many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sons, Chris Culpert, Sean Sawyer, and his son-in-law, Craig Kirchner.
Michael was a Korean War veteran, a retiree of Ford Motor Company and plumbing, and a proud Holly resident for many years, frequently visiting The Moose Lodge and Mike's Coney.
In his younger years, Michael was an avid businessman who owned multiple local donut shops and was the founder of MC Drywall.
He enjoyed many years of life on the lake at his home in Holly, as well as many late nights of cards with friends and family. He took great pride in being a father, a grandfather, and a great-grandfather, attending many of their extracurricular activities. You could usually find him at his favorite restaurants making friends with his waitresses and the local community.
Michael was a determined man of integrity, a big family man, and quickly became a father figure to many of his children's friends, earning him his famous nickname: Big Daddy. He will be loved and missed dearly by many.
Family will greet visitors on Thursday, May 30, 2024, from 10 AM until time of memorial service at 12 noon, officiated by Gary Wissmueller. Following immediately with Military Honors at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd. Holly, MI.
