Michael "Danny" Smiley

         Mr. Michael “Danny” Smiley, 83, of Advance, NC passed away Monday, March 2, 2026 at his home. He was born October 7, 1942 in Baltimore, MD to Blake Welton Smiley and Kazie Wimmer Smiley. Danny retired from Sara Lee and was a member of the Farmington Masonic Lodge. He was an avid Duke and Dale Earnhardt fan. He loved to deer hunt, fish and play golf. Danny also loved going to his children’s and grandchildren’s ball games and camping with the Smiley family. He loved bluegrass music and attended Merle Fest every year. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Brenda McNeill; two brothers, Van and Lester Smiley. Surviving are his wife of nearly 62 years, Joy Spach Smiley; one daughter, Melissa Bowles; one son, Michael Smiley; three grandchildren, Kayla Bowles, Zachary Smiley and Kirklin Bowles; four great grandchildren, Eliza Smiley, Waylon Smiley, Kirklin “K.J.” Bowles Jr., and Calloway Bowles; three sisters, Louise Potts, Debbie Greer and Rene Smiley; and two brothers, Russell and Jimmy Smiley. 

          A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2026 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel with Mr. Tim Dunn officiating. Interment will follow in Advance United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
