Michael Ronald DeCastro

Michael "Mike" DeCastro, 77, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, in Bakersfield, California.

Born in Dover, New Jersey, on October 16, 1948, Mike spent much of his childhood traveling the world with his military family, including years lived in France and Greece. After graduating from St. Bernard's High School in Playa del Rey, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served on active duty in Vietnam in 1969.

Mike dedicated nearly 30 years to a career as a Jobs Counselor for the County of Sonoma. He was a proud mentor and teacher, guiding countless individuals as they entered the workforce or navigated mid-life career changes. Believing deeply in the value of education, he returned to school as a working professional to earn his Bachelor of Arts from Saint Mary's College in Moraga. In 2006, Mike retired to pursue his love of travel, and enjoyed a significant trip across the country.

Known for his sharp wit, infectious sense of humor, and deep compassion, Mike had a unique gift for making people laugh even during challenging times. He was a lifelong animal lover, even serving as a veterinary assistant in his youth.

Mike is survived by his children, Dena DeCastro and Dustin DeCastro, his parents, Ted and Marie Wyman, and his sister, Janet Murphy.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on March 28, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Hodel's in the Heritage Room (5917 Knudsen Dr., Bakersfield, CA 93308). Please RSVP to Dena DeCastro at denadecastro@mac.com if you plan to attend.
