Michael "Jimmy" Delaney, 90, of
East Dennis, MA, formerly of
Sharon, MA and Plymouth Twp., PA, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025. Born on May 29, 1935, Michael was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Margaret Farrell Delaney of Plymouth Twp., PA. Michael was a man of deep faith and enduring kindness who will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Early in life, Michael dedicated himself to service as a brother with the Congregation of the Holy Cross before later pursuing a career with the Connecticut Department of Corrections retiring as Deputy Warden. Following his retirement, he and his wife Jacqueline made their home on Cape Cod, where they enjoyed many beautiful years together.
Michael is survived by his wife, Jacqueline "Jackie" Delaney. The couple shared a true love story and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this December. Their days together were filled with quiet joys-walks on the beach, morning coffees, and the comfort of each other's presence. Michael cared for Jackie until the very end, always being at her side and selflessly putting her own care above his own. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret "Peggy" Magagna of Swoyersville, PA; his brother, Robert Delaney of New Port Richey, Florida; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members who adored him for his warmth and generosity.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings Anne Chapin, Joseph Delaney, and William Delaney; nephews Patrick Delaney and Butch Delaney; and great-nephew, Cliff Spencer.
Michael was known for opening his heart and home to family and friends. Whether in Sharon or Cape Cod, his unwavering generosity and kindness made everyone feel special and welcome. He had a deep love for New England sports teams, a lifelong admiration for the Kennedy family, and a fondness for Starbucks coffee. Above all, he was a man rooted in faith and love for his family.
A viewing for family and friends will be held on Sunday, July 27th, from 5 to 7 PM at Hugh B. Hughes Funeral Home in Forty-Fort, PA.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 28th, at 10:30 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 116 Hughes St., Swoyersville. Interment will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made to Traditional Hospice of Dunmore, PA or to the Medical Oncology Associates Prescription Assistance Fund, 382 Pierce Street, Kingston, PA 18704.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Highland Park Senior Living and Traditional Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Michael in his final days. They also express deep gratitude to the many friends and neighbors in Cape Cod who helped Michael and Jackie enjoy their beloved home for as long as possible.
