Michael J. DeMello, age 59, of Taunton, passed away from a brief, and unexpected battle to cancer on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the life partner of Lisa (Taylor) Luz.
Born and raised in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Joseph and Sofie (Policarpo) DeMello.
Mike dedicated much of his life to the sea, following in the footsteps of his father as a New Bedford fisherman. He took great pride in his work, spending many years as a scalloper, contributing to the legacy of hard work and craftsmanship that defined his career.
Later in life, Mike and Lisa shared a passion for treasure hunting, spending 15 years together exploring yard sales, antiquing and taking on house clean outs. Their adventures were not just about finding hidden gems, but also about the joy of discovery and spending time together doing what they loved. Five of their years were spent selling various treasures at The Brimfield Antique Show.
Mike and Lisa traveled all over the world, from seeing various parts of Europe, to cruising the Caribbean seas with their closest friends, to spending his final trip in Aruba with his family.
Mike was not only a devoted life partner, son, brother, uncle, and father, but he was also a loving and cherished 'vovô' to his six grandchildren. His deep, unconditional love for them knew no bounds, and he found great joy in watching them grow and thrive. To them, Mike was a constant source of love, laughter, and security—a presence they will forever hold close in their hearts.
Besides his life partner Lisa, he is survived by his son, Eric DeMello of Arizona; two daughters, Kaitlyn Harding of Taunton and Sarah Melito and her husband Anthony of Berkley; his sisters Susan DeMello Rezendes, Lisa DeMello, and Jackie DeMello; and six loving grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Joseph “Joey” DeMello, formerly of New Bedford.
All those who knew and loved Mike are welcome to join his family in celebrating his life on Saturday, February 1st, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, at 24 South Social Club, 320 West Center Street, West Bridgewater, MA.
