Michael Doran Obituary

Michael Patrick Doran, Sr, 90, of Hamden, CT, formerly of Cranston, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. He was the devoted husband of the late Marilyn Ann (Walsh) Doran, R.N.

Born in New York City, New York, he was the son of the late Patrick and Mary (Sullivan) Doran. Mike moved to Newport, Rhode Island at the age of four and then to Providence, Rhode Island in 1943. His father, Patrick, passed away a year later in 1944. Mike spent his teenage years in Newport and went on to attend Bryant College. In 1966, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Ann (Walsh) Doran, and they were happily married for fifty-two years. In 1971, they moved to Cranston, Rhode Island where they raised their family. He spent years of his professional life in the financial industry and more recently as a business owner and operator until retirement.

Mike had a gentle, (but stubborn!) spirit and a big laugh. He loved golf and was almost as proud of his Pebble Beach hole-in-one as he was to be Irish-American. He loved to captivate a crowd with his stories and regularly made family and friends laugh out loud. You would have seen Mike around town on Sundays, first at church and then at the local Irish pub, enjoying a pint of Guinness, tapping his foot to the Irish music that he loved so much.

Mike was a fifty-two-year member of Immaculate Conception Church in Cranston and was active in various organizations. He served his faith, heritage and community in a variety of capacities including Past president of Kiwanis Club of Providence, Past Grand Knight St Paul's Council Knights of Columbus Cranston, Former Chairman Zoning Board of Review Cranston, Past President of St Joseph's Men's Guild Immaculate Conception Church Cranston, Past President RI Irish Ceilidhe Club, Member of Ireland 32 Society and Founding member and Fundraising Chairman RI Irish Famine Memorial Committee.

He is survived by his beloved children, Michael P. Doran, Jr. and his wife Christa of Hamden, CT and Margaret M. Lembke and her husband Jeffrey of Denver, CO and three of his four cherished grandchildren: James Patrick Lembke, Livia Kate Doran, Keira Elizabeth Doran.

He was the grandfather of the late Lea Ann Doran.

His Funeral will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 9:00AM from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 237 Garden Hills Drive, Cranston. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Providence.

Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 4:00PM-7:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: The Cure Starts Now, in memory of his granddaughter, Lea Doran at: The Cure Starts Now; 10280 Chester Road, Cincinnati, OH 45215. https://p2p.thecurestartsnow.org/2115
