Obituary published on Legacy.com by Richardson's Benson Mortuary on Jan. 7, 2026.
Michael Drewel, beloved, doting husband, devoted brother, caring friend and coworker, left this earth to obtain his eternal rest on January 2, 2026. He was born to Michael Renee and Gisela Hedrun Drewel in "Berlin West, Germany" as he'd tell anyone who asked, (which was often, as he carried his lovely strong German accent his whole life!).
When he was ten, his parents gifted him a little brother, Marco, whom he loved. While Michael loved his homeland, he dreamed of the Arizona he watched on Westerns with his grandparents. When his best friend, Rainer, moved to Dragoon and invited Michael to visit, Michael fell in love with the rugged grandeur of the American West, and soon after, moved out here as well! Michael had an amazing, almost photographic memory, and often amazed people with his knowledge of historical dates and facts, movie and music trivia, and mental math computations! He has fittingly been called a "Gentle Giant", as he began lifting weights in his teens, and it became a lifetime habit, which showed. He had impeccable manners, always polite and considerate to all he met and worked with. Michael worked as a process technician at Apache Nitrogen Products since 2006 and was always grateful for all the company had to offer, as well as the many friendships he forged with his coworkers. His unique sense of humor often lifted morale and kept people around him laughing, as he appreciated a good joke! In 2009 he met and courted the love of his life, Vikki and she, feeling the same about him, said "Yes, of course!" when he proposed, and they were married in April of 2011. His strong faith in God and love of scriptures was an anchor, and he loved discussing the gospel. He had a love of traveling and hiking, having been to Spain, Greece, France, Mexico and many places in the U.S. before his marriage to Vikki, and took her along with him to Hawaii, Germany, Ireland and Scotland, and on a few amazing road trips within the U.S. and Canada! He truly enjoyed the beauty and peace of nature.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his loving wife, (in Germany: his brother Marco, sister-in-law Liane, and nephew Louis; his dear childhood friend Rainer, Alfred and Regina, Bernd and Margret), extended family and a multitude of friends, neighbors, and coworkers, who all thought so very highly of him and will miss him so dearly!
Services will be held Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 2 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 381 N. Pomerene Rd.
Benson, AZ, 85602. A meal will follow the services, and interment will be in Cochise. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Charles Leighton Hospice in Willcox, AZ.
