Michael Edelson

Michael Edelson, age 54 of New Kensington, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday January 25, 2026. He is the beloved husband of 26 years to Judy (Pae) Edelson, son of Galina and Eugene Edelson, loving father of Leandra and Katherine and brother of Julie. 

Michael loved his family, animals, the outdoors and was deeply curious about the world. In his early adulthood, he served in the U.S. Army. He pursued competitive marksmanship as a personal passion, was an active member of the Andes Fire Department for more than ten years and a science-fiction writer. Michael was a longtime member, practitioner and educator of HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts). His contributions have left an indelible imprint on the art. While his presence will be greatly missed, his legacy will endure. Michael deeply cherished the friendships and sense of community he built in Pittsburgh and New Kensington, as well as in New York.

Friends and family will be received on Saturday January 31st, 2026 from 10 a.m. - 12 noon at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., at 421 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont, PA 15139. A time of remembrance will be held at 12 noon in the funeral home followed by a 1 p.m. burial at Penn Forest Natural Burial Park, 121 Colorado St., Verona PA 15147.
