Michael (Mike) John Edward Roder, 63, of Memphis, TN, died peacefully with his family at his side on April 20, 2023. Mike is survived by his wife, Teresa Hartnett, his parents, Henry and Mary Lou, children Savannah and Zack, brothers-in-law Brian and Edward, sisters-in-law Denise and Moe, and nieces and nephews Jack, Maxine, Megan, Aidan, and Matthew.
Born in Beaufort, South Carolina, Mike grew up in Orange County, California. He graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles, where he was a proud and active member of the Delta Eta Chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Upon graduation, he began his career as a stockbroker in Newport Beach, a career that eventually took him to Washington, DC. He then worked in the restaurant industry, which, like the financial world, gave him the chance to foster so many friendships. It was in D.C. that he met the love of his life, Teresa; they married in 1995. Upon the birth of their first child, Mike began a new career: stay-at-home dad.
In 1997, Teresa's career took them to Memphis, where Mike became an avid devotee to the history, music, and cuisine of his adopted hometown. A phenomenal home cook, Mike crafted numerous delicious meals for his family. His continuous joy of reading and writing gave him a new passion as a fiction writer.
Mike was a loyal and loving son, husband, father, uncle, fraternity brother, and friend to many, and he will be missed more than words can express.
Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 am Friday April 28, 2023 at Canale Funeral Directors, with the funeral service to follow at 11:00am.
