Michael R. Engelkens, Sr, of Sterling, passed away June 29, 2017 at CGH Medical Center. He was born in Kewanee, IL on November 10, 1951 to Edd and Susan (Welch) Engelkens. Michael honorably served his country thru his early years in the U.S. Navy. He was an avid NASCAR fan and loved to cook. Michael was an Executive Chef at several restaurants & resorts. He loved to spend time with his family and grandkids. Michael was very quick with a joke and enjoyed spreading smiles on the faces of everyone around him. Michael married Tammy Smith on October 10, 2008 and she survives in Sterling. Also surviving are his children, Michael R. Engelkens, Jr (Shelly) from Erie, Tammy Engelkens (Rick Gallegos) from Sterling, several step-children, 8 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, brothers Edd Engelkens (Paulette) from Erie, Ricki Engelkens (Kayla) from Morrison, sisters Pil Scott (Jerry) from Morrison, Nancy Wallander (Tom) from Cedar Rapids, Linda Fellows, from Florida, Debra Lowery (Ted) from Morrison, Trudy Eads, from Postville , many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Darrell Engelkens & one grandchild. Cremation rites were accorded. Graveside service will be Monday, July 3, in Lyndon Cemetery at 11AM. A luncheon will follow from Noon to 2PM at 1st Baptist Church, 406 Maple Avenue - Morrison. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made at the luncheon or mailed to First Trust & Savings Bank, 700 Main St, Erie IL 61250- C/O Michael R. Engelkens, Sr. Memorial Fund. McDonald Funeral Home and Crematory in Rock Falls assisted the family.
