Michael Gerard Hagerty

On Thursday, May 5, 2022 actor Michael G. Hagerty passed away at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, California unexpectedly after a short illness. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Michael F. and Margaret M. (nee McFadden) Hagerty on May 10, 1954. He is survived by his widow, Mary Kathryn, his sister Mary Ann, her spouse Kathleen O'Rourke and niece Margaret Kathleen Hagerty. A native of Chicago's southside, he attended St. Cajetan Elementary School, Marist Brothers High School and graduated from the University of Illinois at Circle Campus. For the next 10 years, he worked in the Chicago theatre scene including a most happy and productive time at The Second City. He left Chicago for Los Angeles after being cast in the film "Overboard" and subsequently lived and worked in Los Angeles, cast in many films and television shows over the next 35 years. His body of work was not enormous but it was always intelligent and honest and charming and filled with joy. He regarded every introduction as an opportunity, a new encounter with another human being, another chance for humor in this world. Every cast was the occasion for a new family. He loved you all very, very, very much. Michael will be buried at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills on Tuesday, June 14th at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital or The Guiding Eyes for the Blind would be very kind.
