Michael G. Hanel

Mike Hanel was a caring husband, father, brother and uncle. He left this world suddenly on October 20th, 2024. He was born to Ken and Jean (Dahlgren) Hanel on January 25th, 1951. After graduating high school in Shakopee, Mike served in the Marine Corps as Military Police and Presidential Guard in California. He met his wife, Linda in high school and they married in 1975 and had one child, Tasha.
Mike built their dream home in Shakopee and added a pool. His advanced woodworking skills, craftsmanship skills and creative mind allowed him to work on a list of never ending projects. He was always busy! People will remember him over the years with his involvement with many different things like SACS, motorcycle group, Shakopee Honor Guard, Kmart Distribution, Palmer bus, basketball referee, sports coach, and the neighborhood. He will be greatly missed and he was honored to serve his country, community and family.
Mike is survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda (Menden) Hanel; daughter, Tasha Hanel; sisters and brother, Lisa (Keith) Christopherson, Lauri (Mike) Etzell, and Steve Hanel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Jean Hanel.
Please join us in celebrating Mike's life: Services will be held at McNearney-Schmidt Funeral and Cremation, 1220 3rd Ave. East, Shakopee, MN: Visitation Wednesday, October 30, 2024, from 5-7 PM; and visitation Thursday October 31, from 10-10:45 AM, followed by a Celebration of Mike's Life at 11 AM. Interment will be held Thursday at 2 PM, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN, with full military honor's provided by the Shakopee Veterans Honor Guard.
