Daniel A. Hanel, age 89, of Mankato, died on January 16, 2025 at Pathstone Senior Living.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mankato (421 N. 2nd St.). Visitation will be Friday from 9:30-11:00 at church. Burial will be at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Daniel was born on July 31, 1935 in Mankato to Arthur and Erna (Blatterman) Hanel. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School through 8th grade and then graduated from Bethany High School and attended junior college at Bethany. Daniel graduated from the University of Minnesota majoring in Greek and a minor in history. He graduated from the Orthodox Lutheran Seminary in 1958. Daniel was a pastor for many years in various locations. He served his vicarship in Mankato. He worked for the MN Highway Department and Minnesota State University for several years. Daniel was always trying to improve his knowledge. He loved learning new languages, especially Greek, Hebrew, and German. He enjoyed family camping trips in his earlier years. He loved walking and was a member of the Silver Sneakers.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Ann; eight children, Laura (David) Rasmussen, DaMaris Amundson (Terry Hrdlicka), Joel (Celeste) Hanel, Jonathan (Lynette) Hanel, Joy Hanel, Steven (Cheri) Hanel, Paul (Yana) Hanel, and Benjamin (Mandie) Hanel; 20 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brother, David Hanel; sisters-in-law, Vivian Hanel and Willa Hanel; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gary (Carol) and James; and sister-in-law, Marlene Hanel.
