Services celebrating the life of Michael J. Hataway will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Dry Prong with the Revs. Lloyd Whitman and Kevin Goodman officiating. A gathering of friends and time of visitation will begin on Thursday at 10:00 AM until time of services in the church.

Mr. Hataway, age 74 of Dry Prong, went to meet his Lord on Friday, June 20, 2025 at Natchitoches Community Care Center, Natchitoches, La.

"Mike" was a native and lifelong resident of Dry Prong, La., where he was very well known in the community and attended First Baptist Church of Dry Prong. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy where he was a veteran of the Vietnam War era. Mike then proudly went on to become a State Trooper for the Louisiana State Police, Troop E, where he eventually retired with an impeccable career at the rank of "Master Trooper".

Mike was also a natural born talented musician, singer and song writer. He was an accomplished, self-taught trumpet, piano, keyboard, guitar, harmonica, and accordion player. He embarked on his music career in grade school, and also playing for his church before going on to join "The Concentrics Band" at an early age of which he was very proud. He went on to eventually have his own band where he wrote and recorded his music.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman that loved inviting friends over for a fish fry and was always at peace sitting on his back porch enjoying nature.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Artie Hataway, one grandson, Keaton Hataway and his best friend, Kid Maxey.

He is survived by his daughter, Kellie Jo Bjurman of New Labanon, Ohio, his two sons, Jeffrey D. Hataway of Alexandria and Tommy R. Hataway of Dry Prong. One sister, Suzanne Morrison (Bryan) of Cane River, La., his former wife and mother of his children, Cathy Mills of Brookville, Ohio, eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and his dear best friends, Mike Burns and Kenny Chandler. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be his "Brothers in Blue" from the Louisiana State Police, Troop E.

The family would like to offer their sincere appreciation the staff of Oak Haven Nursing and Rehab, Natchitoches Community Care Center and Hospice of Natchitoches.
