Michael Gair Hess, 65 of Ridgecrest, California, passed away on January 11, 2026.
The oldest of four children, Michael Hess was born in Ridgecrest, California on March 21, 1960 to Max and Dorrine Hess. Michael graduated from Burroughs High School in 1978. A devout Catholic, Michael entered Holy Redeemer College, a Redemptorist seminary in Wisconsin immediately following graduation. In 1979, he moved with his parents and siblings to Costa Mesa, California where he worked for Albertsons and the Gregory Company. Upon returning to Ridgecrest, California in the early 1980’s, Michael continued with the Gregory Company, working on the Heritage Village development. He also worked a variety of jobs with several local companies including Mather Dairy and Yellow Cab Company.
Michael was deeply passionate about the Catholic Faith. He loved to travel with his parents and sister, visiting Rome, Italy, and Israel and traveled throughout the United States with friends. He loved his family and found the most joy when spending time with all of his nieces and nephews.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Max and Dorrine Hess.
Michael is survived by his siblings, Theresa, Vince, Joe (Resa) Hess; five nephews, four nieces and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces. He is also survived by aunt Pat Harris, aunt Bonnie Gregory and uncle Ken Zurn and many cousins.
A rosary will be held at Holland & Lyons, Thursday, February 5, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. with visitation from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be held Friday, February 6, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church with burial to follow at Desert Memorial Park. Reception to follow at the Monsignor Kevin Cleary Parish Hall.
