Michael Wayne Holsey, Sr., 78, of Evansville, passed away Monday, February 9, 2026 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital. He was born May 17, 1947 in Evansville to the late James J. and Clare A. (Paker) Holsey.

Michael was a graduate of Memorial High School in 1967. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Michael worked at Ameritech for 31 years and retired in 1999. He was a member of VFW Post 1114. Michael was an active member of St. Benedict Cathedral and volunteered for St. Ben's BINGO. Michael treasured the time he spent with his family and especially enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Michael is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Timmy) Gentry; son, Michael Holsey, Jr.; grandchildren, Trevor (Sara) Gentry and Troy Gentry; great-grandchildren, Jenson and Collins Gentry; siblings, Awanda (Roy) McElwee, Glenda McElwee, Robert Holsey, Ronald (Jessica) Holsey and Donald (Stacey) Holsey; sister-in-law, Priscilla Holsey; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Margaret "Marty" (Heath) Holsey; sister, Terri Hughes; brother, William Holsey, Sr.; sister-in-law, Marietta Holsey; and brother-in-law, Kenneth McElwee, Sr.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2026 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville with a Memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2026 at St. Benedict Cathedral, 1328 Lincoln Ave., Evansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the church with Father Tyler Underhill officiating.

Entombment will be at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
