Michael LaRoy Hough, age 76 of Richards, Missouri, formerly of Rich Hill, Missouri departed this life and flew into the arms of Jesus on December 23, 2025, after many years of failing health. Mike was born March 21, 1949 in Butler, Missouri to LaRoy Elmer Hough and Bonnie L. (Day) Hough.

He attended Rich Hill schools for all 12 years and graduated in 1967. Mike married Maxine Wheeler and to this union, one daughter, Brandy Rene Hough, was born in 1975. Several years later, Maxine passed away after a battle with cancer. In July 1987 Mike married Patty Dawson Swarnes and through this marriage he gained two additional children, Jeanne Swarnes and Cale Swarnes. The family of five lived in the Raymore-Peculiar area for more than 35 years.

Mike loved bowling and slow-pitch softball and excelled in both–actually, he excelled in every sport he attempted. He was an avid shooter and loved his "toys." Mike was also an excellent pool and billiards competitor and an enthusiastic card player. He loved fast cars and in his later years, owned a 1970 Challenger, a 1973 Dodge Dart Swinger and a 1975 Corvette. It was rumored that he even outran the Missouri State Highway Patrol on several occasions! The Kansas City Chiefs were his favorite sports team and he never missed watching a game on TV. After learning the plumbing trade, Mike quickly earned his Master Plumber license and eventually purchased the business from his mentor. He successfully plumbed throughout the Kansas City area, providing well for his family. In 2020, Mike and Patty moved to their new home on the family farm in the Metz area. Mike was a devoted follower of Christ and a member of First Baptist Church of Peculiar. He loved reading his Bible, worshiping in church and participating in Bible studies until he was no longer able to attend.

Mike is survived by his wife, Patty of the home; two daughters, Brandy Teubner and husband Richard of Crawfordville, Florida and daughter Jeanne Derr and husband Jerrid of Papillion, Nebraska; son, Cale Swarnes and wife Kimberly of Butler, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Whitney Hagewood and husband Preston of Blue Springs, Missouri, Brandon Olson of Kansas City, Missouri, Aidan Teubner of Crawfordville, Florida, Carson Derr and Evan Derr both of Papillion, Nebraska, Bethany Swarnes of Butler, Missouri and Eric Swarnes of Clarksville, Tennessee; and two siblings, Bob Martin and Becky Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mike and I knew each other from 1973 and were very close friends. We both worked at Cummins Mid-America together. Played Softball for several years on different teams. Mike was very aggressive and proficient at this game. We both were a bit wild then but that was our age era. Anyone that met Mike liked him right away. My wife Saeko and I hold many memories of our friendship with Mike and pictures of that time. Mike was a great friend to us. As long as one person says his name, he will Always be remembered.
