Michael Edward Jones Sr.

Michael Edward Jones Sr. of Norfolk, VA (formerly of Steubenville, Ohio) passed away on February 8, 2026, at the age of 47. Michael was born on December 12, 1978, in Steubenville, Ohio, to his parents, Avis and Nathan Jones.

A proud graduate of Steubenville Big Red High School, Class of 1997, Michael played football and ran track. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Michael loved to cook and worked as a cook after relocating to Norfolk, VA.

Michael was preceded in death by Roberta Sutton-Jones; his grandmothers, Frances Watson and Elizabeth Jones; his grandparents, Frank and Josephine Butler; and his grandparents, John Henry and Norma Johnson.

Michael is survived by his parents, Avis Jones of Phoenix, AZ, and Nathaniel Jones (Carolyn) of Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his wife, Shelly Jones; his son, Michael E. Jones, Jr.; his daughters, Patience Jones and Essence Jones; his brothers, Hubert Watson and Raymond Butler; and his sister, Francine Sutton-Brooks. He also leaves to cherish his memory a special cousin, Keisha Jones; best friends, Copeteel Lee Thompson and Maeques Franklin; and a bonus brother, Will Bronson of Maryland.

Michael will be remembered by many extended family members and very close friends.
