Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gibbons Family Funeral Home, Ltd. - Chicago on Dec. 10, 2025.
Michael Patrick Jordan was born on July 16, 1950 in
Oak Park, Illinois. Mike died on December 6, 2025 in Chicago, with his wife and daughter by his side. Mike was the beloved husband for 43 years and best friend for 57 years of Nancy S Candice, generous father of Meghan Michael Jordan, kind father-in-law of Ryan Arthur McGuire, and doting grandfather of Arthur Jordan McGuire.
Mike was the eldest cherished son of the late John Patrick and Anna Marie (Dayer) Jordan; the loving son-in-law and great friend of the late Vincent and Adelyn Candice; the eldest sibling of ten, including Patricia (Ray) Fox, the late Judy, the late John, the late Dennis, Daniel (Mary Ann), the late David, Patrick (Theresa), the late Martin (Maureen) and Mary (Scott) Mattas; and proud uncle, dear cousin and close friend to very many.
Mike Jordan was a quintessential and lifelong Chicagoan. He grew up on the West Side of Chicago as the eldest of ten siblings, and eventually settled and raised his family in the South Loop. Mike began working neighborhood jobs at the age of nine, kickstarting a life of myriad adventures, stories and friendships spanning the globe. Mike attended grammar school at St. Angela Catholic School, where he assisted his father in coaching basketball, and high school at St. Patrick High School. A proud Rambler, Mike was the first of many siblings to attend college at Loyola University Chicago, where he met his wife, Nancy, and his lifelong Alpha Kappa Psi fraternity brothers and friends. He almost completed his MBA at DePaul University, but in typical Mike Jordan fashion, instead got a great job offer, went on a business trip to a far off place, and never looked back.
Mike traveled the world as part of his successful sales and marketing career in medical devices, traversing millions of miles and making friends across six of seven continents, and instilled a sense of curiosity and love of exploration in his family.
Mike's joys were spending time in his South Loop, Chicago home with his wife Nancy and daughter Meghan, where they hosted many memorable gatherings over the years for their large extended family; travels with his wife and daughter, particularly to Maui, Rome, Disney World, Tokyo, and Door County; supporting his daughter in every extracurricular activity over the years; attending his family's annual reunion in Bull Shoals, Arkansas to visit with over one hundred of his aunts, uncles, cousins and relatives; and, just about everything about his hometown city of Chicago (go White Sox). Most recently, Mike experienced his greatest joy of all and became a grandfather to his beloved grandson, Arthur Jordan.
Mike was sharply intelligent, astute, witty and well read, and a font of knowledge and an engaging conversationalist on absolutely all topics. He was a no-nonsense yet endlessly funny person, and the true embodiment of a down-to-earth Chicago spirit. A unique presence, Mike will be keenly missed.
If you are so moved, and in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Jack & Marty Jordan Fund at St. Angela School, established in memory of Mike's late father and youngest brother to support athletic and extracurricular programs. Or, please donate to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
