Michael Joseph Keenan, born on January 21, 1957, in Washington, DC, passed away peacefully at home on June 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Michael, dedicated and warm-hearted, devoted 25 years of his life to the United States Park Police before moving to North Carolina.
An alumnus of North Rockland High School, he proudly graduated with the class of 1975 before continuing his education at Oregon State University, where he obtained a bachelor's degree. Those who knew Michael will remember him for his infectious sense of humor and his genuinely kind spirit, which made everyone around him feel cared for and valued.
Michael’s greatest joy came from his family. He cherished every moment spent with his wife of 49 years, Joyce Keenan, and was deeply proud of his children, Laurie DeEsch and her husband Doug, and Brian Keenan and his wife Kristyn. Michael was the doting grandfather to seven beautiful grandchildren: Trey, Carrington, Grace, Alasdair, Cassidy, Rosalind, and Eleanora, whom he loved fiercely. His generosity knew no bounds as he often showered them with gifts, illustrating how much they meant to him.
Not only was Michael a devoted family man, but he was also considered a true handyman, possessing a remarkable ability to fix just about anything that required repair. His passion for hobbies was evident; whenever he found something he enjoyed, he dove in wholeheartedly, always inspiring those around him with his enthusiasm.
Michael's nurturing presence will be fondly remembered by his loving sisters, Ann Baldassare and Rita Galbraith, along with her husband Pete and his cherished nephews, Peter Jr. and Hunter Galbraith. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law Robert Logan and his wife Andrea, as well as his nephew Rob Logan and his wife Emma, and niece Bonnie Logan, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Jack Baldassare, his sister Jean Baldassare, and his niece Emily Copeland.
A visitation will be held in honor of Michael at Raymer - Kepner in Huntersville, NC, on July 2, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM. The service will be livestreamed and may be viewed below or by clicking LIVESTREAM.
Michael Joseph Keenan, a man filled with love and laughter, will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of kindness and dedication to family will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.
