With great sadness we announce the passing of Michael D. Kilfoil Sr. beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Michael David Kilfoil Sr was born in Portland Maine on May 7, 1941, to Murray B. and Clare Cassidy Kilfoil. He was one of seven children, two sisters and four brothers. Michael graduated from Portland High School in 1959.
Michael was in the Navy for 4 years and was honorably discharged on August 24th, 1965. He later enrolled in the Army Reserve for 2 years and was a member of the Eagles and Amvets post.
On June 18th, 1966, he married the love of his life Rose C. Lapomarda where they settled in Portland Maine and bought their first house on Spruce Street. In the winter of 1973, they moved to Windham, Maine where they raised their family for 51 years. Michael and his wife Rose loved traveling to Florida to visit their family and friends. They also enjoyed going on cruises together.
Michael worked for Brockway Smith Company for over 30 years and retired from there in 2003. After retirement Michael enjoyed playing golf and worked part time for his daughter and son in law's construction company as a handy man who would run errands, bring supplies and tools to different job sites.
Michael was an avid New England sports fan, his love for the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots was undeniable. He never missed a Sox or Pats game and knew every player by jersey number and the stats of each team. His love for New England sports teams was passed on to his children. Michael was always involved in coaching his son's baseball team when he was a child. He never missed a chance to attend his grandchildren's sports events or dance recitals to cheer them on.
Michael's love for his family is the one thing that brought him the most joy in the world besides his wife Rose. Michael was always the life of the party and loved gathering at his children's homes for summer BBQ's, birthday parties or holiday celebrations. He loved playing bocce and corn hole while enjoying a cold Budweiser. His family never missed an opportunity to enjoy his famous Sunday pancake breakfast.
Michael was predeceased by his parents Murray and Claire (Cassidy) Kilfoil, his wife, Rose Lapomarda Kilfoil, two brothers Joseph and Arthur Kilfoil, a Sister Carolyn (Frank) McGrath. He is survived by his three Children and their spouses, Veronica (Michael) Meyer, Michael Jr. (Cheryl) Kilfoil, Melissa (Michael) Castrucci. One sister Elizabeth (Bob) Winslow, & Brothers Cliff (Doris) Kilfoil, Fred (Phyllis) Kilfoil. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Amanda, Jessica, Kyle, Mariah, Scottie, Isabella & Mikaela three great grandchildren Walker, Harper and Quinn and many nieces and nephews.

Hi Mike, Veronica, & Melissa,

So sorry for you all with the passing of your Dad!!!.... and that you lost both your Wonderful Dad & Wonderful Mom in such a short span of time. It must be a really tough time right now. My utmost Condolences and Sympathies to the three of you and your children and grandchildren on the loss of your Great Dad & Patriarch!

Your parents left an indelible legacy for your entire family! I am happy to know they are both together again after only a short separation and hope there is some solace for you in that as well. Their souls were almost one for so many decades that their spirits just could not rest until they were united once again I think. It is common with couples together for 50 plus years that when one leaves the other soon follows. Glad you all got to have such fantastic parents for 50 plus years though wish you could have had them for yet some more years.

I was just a kid, but remember when your parents got married as it was such an EVENT in the Lapomarda Family. Your Dad was already much loved in the Lapomarda Family. For weeks, everyone was so excited about the Wedding including my mother. Everyone was so happy for the two of them and it was inescapable even for a young, though observant, kid like me. I think all Rose's adult female cousins were her bridesmaids including my sister Janis and they all looked so beautiful in blue together!

Your Dad was very loved by all his Lapomarda Aunts and Uncles (and the cousins that knew him). They all considered him their own nephew and part of the family. And thought he was such a nice fun person and lovingly loyal husband and Dad. Unfortunately, almost all of them are not here to say it for themselves, or extend you their condolences, so I wanted to do so on their behalf.

Big Hugs Mike, Veronica, & Melissa

Cousin Henk
