Hello,
We wanted you to know that we will be honoring and remembering your loved one this holiday season. We have recently sent Care Packages to our deployed troops in his name. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Michael D. Kirspel Jr. US Army Sergeant .
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, our family, friends and many others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,

To Michael's family. Know that
Michael was loved and respected by his fellow soldiers. My son is serving in Afghanistan and was in the vehicle with Michael. He spoke to me after the tragedy for a long period of time and told me all about Michael ("Donut" as he called him). Know that he will be missed greatly and what a fine man he was. He will live forever in our hearts and prayers. As will his family.

Dear Sgt Kirspel,
You gave your life so that I may live mine. I don't know if thank you would be great enough words for you. What I do know is that you will be joining millions of other soldiers who unselfishly gave their young lives for me. Please say hello to my son who served our country in the Navy. I'm sure he has a firm hand shake for you. May God keep your family strong, as he has done for me.

Dear Kirspel family,
I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Michael will never be forgotten.
For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.
For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.
I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you .

Dawn and Chris and Mike, I am not sure if you will remember me (Jamesway!), but I want to send you all mine and Martin's deepest condolences. I know it has been a very long time since we have talked, but when I saw the name, I was hoping and praying it was not your Mikey. I know he was like 7 or 8 when I last babysat for him, but it seems like he turned into such a heroic gentleman that you were so proud of. I was waiting to hear about the services, and wish that I could attend to give you my condlences in person, but unfortunately I am out of town until Sunday. I wanted to let you know that you are all in my prayers, and I will be thinking of you during this difficult time. Wish it was completely different circumstances for me to get in touch. Our thoughts and prayers are witH you. Pam (Kuzminski) Murphy

Dear Roberts & Kirspel Families,
We are so very sorry for your loss. There are no words that can help ease the pain of such a loss. We want you to know how much we appreciate the sacrafice that your son has made for our freedom. Hopatcong is a small town, and although we could never know the pain you are going through, we have a sense of loss as losing one of our own. May your memories of Michael be plentiful and happy. Keep the memories close in your heart and think of them and him often. When you talk to him, he will hear you. He will always be watching over you hopefully giving you the comfort you will need. Again, we are so sorry for your loss. I will say a prayer for Michael and your families this week in church. RIP Sgt. Michael Kirspel And thank you from my entire family for keeping us safe here at home. You will not be forgotten.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to SGT. Michael Kirspel our Brother-in-Arms . To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Michael. And to Michael it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Michael, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,335 military Legionnaire Veterans of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Michael’s family and loved ones.
