MICHAEL KOENIG Obituary

MICHAEL KOENIG Michael Charles Koenig, affectionately known as Mr. Mike to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully in LaGrange, Texas. Born on January 8, 1949, in St. James, he was a beacon of light and laughter to all who knew him. Michael's journey through life was marked by his unwavering faith, his enduring kindness, and his uncanny sense of humor. Mr. Mike was a devoted family man who cherished his wife of 27 years, Deborah Koenig, with whom he shared a love that was evident to everyone around them. He was a proud father to Stephanie Koenig Vasquez and Rebecca Koenig, and a father figure to his stepson, Thomas O'Brien. He loved his visits with his son-in-law Joe Vasquez and his conversations with his son-in-law Mike Martin. He loved his brother-in-law, TJ Thomassen and their lively visits. He leaves behind his sister, Jeanette Dexheimer in St. James and many other family members in Minnesota. His brother Russell Koenig and his parents preceded him in death. The son of Cecelia and Floyd Koenig, Michael inherited a strong work ethic and a compassionate heart. His academic pursuits led him to study engineering, a field in which he excelled and later channeled into a successful career. As an entrepreneur and business owner, he established MC Koenig & Associates, where his leadership and innovative spirit were the driving forces behind the company's growth and success. He and Deborah found themselves in Round Top, Texas, in 2009. They built an art gallery, Orchid Tree Park and Gallery and formed new friendships throughout the years. Fayette County was their favorite homestead location and recently moved back in December 2024. Michael's Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life. He lived his beliefs through his actions, embodying the love and grace taught in the scriptures. His two visits to Israel were lifelong dreams and highlights of his belief in God. Beyond his professional and spiritual endeavors, Mr. Mike was a man of many interests. He had a passion for woodworking, creating beautiful pieces that reflected his precision and attention to detail. He enjoyed many vacation trips to various locations throughout his life. New York City was one of his favorite places to live in his earlier career. Those who knew Michael will remember him for his wit and his ability to find humor in the everyday. His laughter was infectious and his jokes were always delivered with a twinkle in his eye. He was faith-filled, kind, and carried a lightness that could brighten even the darkest of days. Michael Charles Koenig's legacy is one of love, laughter, and faith. He has left an indelible mark on the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. As we bid farewell to Mr. Mike, we take solace in the memories we shared and the knowledge that his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us. His was a life well-lived, full of moments that will be cherished forever. Rest in peace, Michael. Your love and light will never be forgotten. Mikes family lived in a farm house my parents owned. One time we were going on vacation Mike and his brother Russell were going to do the chores while we were gone. Russell being older thought he should be the boss, Mike being the diplomat said that he could be the boss and I will tell you what to do. Russell was fine with that.

As with Dale Harbits I first met Mike at school in Grogan. There was 4 of us in that class. His parents rented a house from my parents for a while. Was always hoping I could see him sometime after graduation. So sorry for your loss.

Remembering Mike as a friend since our early-teen age years back in Grogan grade school; and, then on to Jr. High. Always saw kindness in his thoughts and actions since those early years!

Reading Mike´s obituary brought tears to my eyes because everything that was said about him is so true as I also experienced knowing him through St. James Catholic school & St. James high school class of `67.
