Michael John Larsen, 80, of
Downingtown, PA passed away unexpectedly from complications of Influenza A and pneumonia on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at Paoli Hospital, Paoli, PA.
Born in
Belding, MI, Michael was the son of the late Vincent and Pauline (Edlin) Larsen. He was the beloved husband of Mary Elizabeth (Stealy) Larsen. The couple shared 58 years of marriage.
Growing up in
Charlotte, MI, he graduated from Charlotte High School as valedictorian in 1963. Highly athletic and hard-working, he was a 4-sport letterman in football, basketball, baseball and golf and earned an Eagle Scout rank from The Boy Scouts of America.
Michael graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Michigan State University in 1967. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity where he formed many life-long friends.
After college, and a brief stint with Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in the
Detroit, MI area, he began a 20-year career with Sun Oil Company. Originally employed in the Owosso District near his home in
East Lansing, MI, he was promoted a new position in the Detroit/Southfield area. In 1978, he relocated to the main corporate offices in the Philadelphia area where he rose to Corporate Manager of Strategic Planning. After leaving Sun Oil, he spent his remaining working years as a Retail Broker for Janney, Montgomery, Scott in the
West Chester, PA office.
While living in
East Lansing, MI, he and his wife Mary enjoyed a membership at the County Club of Lansing. Upon moving to Pennsylvania from
West Bloomfield, MI in 1978, they joined Whitford Country Club in
Exton, PA and made countless memories with wonderful friends for 47 years. Michael made an impact during his years at Whitford by serving on the Board of Governors, serving a term as Vice President, and dedicating many years on the Membership Committee. Highlights of his golfing years included playing in club tournaments, Member-Guest tournaments, GAP Team Matches, and making two holes-in-one.
Beyond his career and Whitford affiliation, Michael was active in the community serving as a referee for LYA Basketball and as an East Caln Township Election Volunteer.
Michael enjoyed Sudoku, crossword puzzles, playing bridge, spending time with his family, annual destination trips with long-time friends, and a cold bottle of Yuengling.
In addition to his wife Mary, Michael is survived by his children: Michael Scott Larsen (Suzanne Koup-Larsen) of Glenmoore, PA, and Jeffrey Ryan Larsen (Kelly Grogan Larsen) of Cherry Hill, NJ. He was blessed with four grandchildren: Anna, Ian, Jack, and Ryan. Also surviving is his sister: Susan Larsen Tast (Terry Tast) and his niece, Sara Tast Lincoln (Nicholas Lincoln) and grandniece, Emma Lincoln of
Charlotte, MI.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Whitford Country Club - 600 Whitford Hills Road,
Exton, PA 19341 on March 21, 2026 from 12pm-3pm.
