Bath - Michael Andrew Laser passed away peacefully on September 6th after a long illness, with his loving parents by his side. He was born on January 6th, 1999, in Baltimore, Maryland, and resided in Michigan and Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania, before moving to Bath, the little city he loved.
Michael attended St. Mary's Catholic Church and was a reverent and devoted worshiper at Mass. He volunteered as an usher and would help with office work. As a member of the Knights of Columbus, Michael helped with the Tootsie Roll sales for Special Olympics. Shortly before his passing, he became an honorary 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a fraternity of men founded on principles of charity, unity and fraternity.
Michael was a proud graduate of Morse High School where he was blessed with the most caring teachers and coaches. In his junior and senior year, he participated in the Unified Basketball program and the Special Olympics, competing at Sugarloaf in the Snowshoe competition where he won a silver medal. After graduating, he joined The Raptors, a Special Olympics' team, participating in track and basketball.
An avid outdoor enthusiast, Michael looked forward to boating, camping, hiking at Reid State Park, and swimming at Popham Beach. Singing and dancing along with musicals was a favorite pastime. He enjoyed riding the Bath trolley with his dear friends Annmarie Jane and Olivia and taking visitors to The Fountain for ice cream. Most importantly, he enjoyed people. His joyful and loving attitude touched the lives of all whom he met. He had the innate gift of helping others, seeing to their needs before being asked.
To his many doctors, nurses and health care professionals at Mid Coast Hospital and the MaineHealth Network, Portland, and the CHANS Hospice team, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the care you gave Michael.
Michael is survived by his parents, Keith and Marta Laser, his grandmother, Patricia Shannon of Bath, and his six siblings, Christopher (Krystal) Laser, Shannon (Ian) Krupka, Claire (Jeffrey) Amundson, Anna (Cory) Manning, Timothy Laser, and James (Anna) Laser; his thirteen nieces and nephews, and many aunts, uncles and cousins, all whom he dearly loved.
Thank you, Michael, for teaching us by example how to love unconditionally and choose joy and gratitude, no matter the circumstance. Thank you for showing us deeds of love done with exquisite kindness and tenderness. We will forever hold you close to our hearts. You are sorely missed, and our solace is knowing that you are now healed and whole, praising God and delighting in the glorious company of angels and saints in heaven. We love you.
