Michael Johnson Lloyd, 78, of
Cary, North Carolina, passed away on October 27, 2025, at Durham VA Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. He was born on March 22, 1947, in Wake County, North Carolina, to Kenneth and Annie Lloyd.
Mike served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a longtime member of Good Hope Baptist Church.
Mike was a faithful friend to many and, oftentimes, the adopted uncle and grandfather as well. He filled a hole in people's lives they didn't even know existed-expanding our worlds and making them more complete. Mike loved boldly, quietly, and deeply. If you needed help, he was there to do whatever was required, simply because he loved you or cared. He never sought accolades; he only wanted to ensure that his loved ones were taken care of, no matter the cost to his own time or self. In this way, he reflected the love of Jesus Christ.
Though Mike struggled with PTSD and the trials that came from his service in the Vietnam War, he demonstrated what it meant to "endeavor to persevere," as he was known to say. Even on his hardest days, he faced each morning determined to carry on and find someone he could help. Sometimes, he did so while struggling himself. In his own hardship, he sought to encourage others in whatever small way he could.
Mike brought joy to those blessed enough to know him well in a way that only he could. There was a firmness to his demeanor-rough around the edges-but you always knew exactly where Mike stood. He possessed a rare freedom in being so comfortable with who he was. Mike was Mike-take it or leave it. And because of that, you felt free to be exactly yourself, knowing he could handle it.
He was never in a hurry, reminding us all to slow down, to enjoy the simple times spent together, and to cherish the many blessings God has given each of us. Mike loved to tell stories about memories past-but the best stories were always the ones about Mike.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Eva G. Lloyd; his brother, Kenneth Lloyd and wife Laney of Sanford; sister Diane Cuppit of Fuquay-Varina; sister-in-law Lela McCarson of Wake Forest; brother-in-law John Goodwin and wife Wyonne of Raleigh; nieces Michele Goodwin of Durham, Brittany Lloyd, Leanne Buckland, and Angela Moss.
