Michael Henry "Spanky" Loebertmann

Michael Henry Loebertmann passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, in Victor Township, Wright County at the age of 65 years.

Michael was born to Louise Clara (Stifter) Loebertmann and Anthony Martin Loebertmann on May 3, 1960. He had the distinct privilege of being the first baby born at the long-awaited St. Mary's Hospital and Home in Winsted, MN. It was one day after the hospital opened, and the entire town celebrated the new arrival. By the time the hospital closed on November 1, 1989, 2,078 babies had been born there.

Michael attended Howard Lake Schools from kindergarten to graduation in 1978. One day when he was in kindergarten, he and his classmates lined up against a wall in the hallway to allow high schoolers to pass to change class. One of the high schoolers noticed the chubby boy in the kindergarten class and said, "There's Spanky!" This nickname stayed with him for his entire life.

After high school he worked briefly for Sterner's Elevator in Silver Lake and Winsted Farmers Elevator until they closed. Then he was employed at Millerbernd's Manufacturing in Winsted until illness forced his early retirement.

Michael enjoyed maintaining the landscape around his home property, often adding new trees and plants. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, harvesting firewood, raising chickens and raising pheasants for release. Every fall he entertained his siblings and their families at an annual "Fun Day on the Farm," which included outdoor games and lots of food and ended with a fireworks display.

He was often seen with his faithful companion, a Golden Retriever, which he named after a female country western singer. He could often be found riding side by side in his ranger with his dog. His current companion, Dolly, was by his side when he passed.

Michael is survived by seven siblings: Therese Kral (Bernard) of Stockton, MO; Monica Kral (John) of Hoffman, MN; Kenneth Loebertmann of Howard Lake, MN; Frances Luhman of Howard Lake, MN; Stephen Loebertmann (Debbie) of Buffalo, MN; Agnes Schmitz (Paul) of Maple Lake, MN; and Barbara Steffer (Michael) of Howard Lake, MN. Nineteen nieces and nephews, forty-seven great nieces and nephews and three great-great nieces also survive him.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Louise Loebertmann, sister-in-law Nancy Loebertmann and brother-in-law Michael Luhman. A Great Niece, Cassandra Larson and Great-Great Nephew Cohen Mounsdon also preceded him.
