Belchertown – Michael E. Madden, 58, of Old Enfield Road, died suddenly on Tuesday, December 21. Born in Ludlow, September 13, 1952 he was the son of Lawrence and Dorothy (Baldwin) Madden. Mike grew up in Ludlow and was a graduate of Ludlow High School. He furthered his education at the University of Lowell where he received his bachelor's degree. He then worked for Coz Chemical in Worcester from 1977-1996, when he co-founded ECM Plastics in Worcester and served as its VP of sales. He was very proud of having achieved the designation of Eagle Scout. In his leisure time, he enjoyed many activities with his family, including Red Sox and Celtics games with his daughters, as well as hiking in the Quabbin Reservoir. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 31 years, Deborah (Duggan) Madden, and his three daughters, Elizabeth of Belchertown, and Melissa and Laura of Brooklyn, NY. He also leaves a brother Lawrence, Jr. and wife Patricia of Wilbraham, and sister Jacqueline Madden of Ludlow, a brother in law Carl Capitan of Springfield, along with his nieces Karen Madden of Wilbraham and Kathleen DeMorris and husband Stephen of Springfield. Additionally, his sister in law and brother in law, Patricia and Lewis Klein of S. Hadley, and very dear friends, the Davis and Duke families of Florida survive him. In addition to his parents, his sister Rita Capitan (2009) preceded him in death. Calling hours will be Sunday December 26 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home, 10 Maple St., (Rte. 202). A funeral mass will be Monday at 12:00 p.m. at St. Brigid's Church in Amherst followed by burial in St. Brigid's Cemetery. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Monday between 10:30 and 11:00 a.m. to pay final respects or meet directly at the church. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Swift River Historical Society, 40 Elm St., New Salem, MA 01355, or Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS, 66675-8517, or Carriage House Counseling Center, 21 Cedar St., Worcester, MA 01609.
