Michael Leroy Mallum
1955-2024
Michael Leroy Mallum, age 69, of Bovey, MN, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024 at his home in Bovey, MN.
Mike was born on March 7, 1955, to Maurice and Hazel Mallum in Grand Rapids, MN. He started working at 7-up Bottling in Grand Rapids and then at Northwest Maintenance for his father-in-law before starting his job with Brinks Sand and Gravel in Grand Rapids. He was with Blandin Paper/UPM from 1975-1992 when he became owner and operator of Mallum Hauling with his wife, Pam.
His grandkids were one of his biggest joys. Mike's interests included playing lead guitar in Pure Brew and 5th Wheel Band, playing cribbage, and spending time at his hunting cabin at BBHC. He was always a big kid at heart, always playing in the dirt. He had an enormous and generous heart. He also enjoyed taking Mitchell Bibich for his rides in the side by side.
Mike is survived by his wife of 51 years, Pamela; sons, Jason (Lynn), Jeremy (Suzette), Joel (Nichole); grandchildren, Morgan (Andrew) Grooms, Riley Mallum, Alanna Jo Mallum, Jackson Mallum, Aiyla Mallum; brother, Bruce (Cheryl) Mallum; sister, Lynn (Jeff) Liesmaki; in-laws, Tom Nelson, Colen (Cindy) Gibeau, Jim (Linda) Gibeau; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mike is also survived by the safety meeting team, Joe Bibich, Gary Louis, Gordy Stoltz, Terry Kangas, and Richard Shustarich.
He is preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Bob and Jo Gibeau; siblings, Maurice and Judith, Tammy Hewett; sister-in-law, Roxanne Nelson; and nephews, Tim Nelson and Chad Beer.
A Celebration of Mike's life will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2024, from 1:00-3:00pm at The Barn in the Woods, 27037 Baich Rd, Bovey, MN. A processional to Itasca-Calvary Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MN will follow for Mike's final ride in his trucks. Fellowship will continue at The Barn in the Woods after the burial.
