Michael J. Maloney, 80, passed peacefully at his home in Cicero, NY on December 30, 2024. Born to the late Francis E. Maloney and Louise Veronica Maloney (née Dixon), of North Syracuse, Mike was a 1962 graduate of Cicero-North Syracuse High School, attended Syracuse University, and served in the U.S. National Guard Reserves. In 1974, he became the self-appointed Mayor of Downtown Cicero Swamp and resided in Cicero, NY for 50 years. He is survived by his ex-wife, Carlene Maloney of Cicero, NY, and his four children, Michael James Maloney, of New York, NY, Katie L. Maloney, of Cortland, NY, Clinton J. Maloney, of Cicero, NY, and Brendon F. Maloney, of Denver, CO. Mike's smile will always be present in the faces of his beloved grandchildren; Ana, Sara, Brennan, Connor, Owen, Henry, and Eleanor. In addition, his sisters, Margaret Maloney, Mary Maloney and Catherine (Arun) Gan and brothers, Francis, Jr. (Carol), Thomas, Martin (Lorraine) and Dr. Robert (Judith) Maloney survive.
Mike was best known for his kind heart, eternal friendship, guidance, direction, support and love for others within the community, personally and professionally. His smile brightened any room he entered.
Mike was a life-long entrepreneur and owned and operated several businesses. Mike's primary venture, Landscape Development Company, Inc., a family-owned commercial landscaping business, was the focal point of his professional life and operated throughout the greater central New York area for over 53 years. Mike derived great pleasure in the relationships he made operating LDC.
Calling hours will be held at Fergerson Funeral Home, 215 South Main Street, North Syracuse from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, January 10, 2025. Service will be held at Fergerson Funeral Home at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
