So Sorry for your loss of Michael. I still remember my younger football team, under the guidance of Coach Sam Labarbera - "practice" football day playing against one of the most skilled and fastest and feared Sr. students/football players at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish Elementary School, "Michael Mathis". He was a tough one to get past...fastest player in the school, they say. (albeit 1 or 2 yrs ahead of my class of '69.) I was once running with the football seeing Michael ahead of me frightened to the end of me. I pulled the old dodge and switch directions on Michael. He went down and I scored! That was probably one of the biggest highlights in my eight years at STA.- that "practice" day when I got past one of the Mathis brothers". I'm not surprised Michael turned out to be a man of accomplishment and excellence! You must be so proud of him. May the Good Lord continue to bless your family in ways only He knows. Love, from me and my family that lived right across the street from that infamous football field.
