Michael Christopher Matthews, known affectionately as Mike by those who loved him, was a beacon of laughter and intellect, whose presence radiated joy and wisdom. Born on July 20, 1972, in Lowell, Massachusetts, Mike was a man whose life was painted with broad strokes of creativity, humor, and loyalty. In the words of Mark Twain, "The secret of success is making your vocation your vacation." This was exactly how Mike lived his life, turning his passions and hobbies into a successful career as a web designer.
Mike was a man of many talents and interests. As a child, he found joy in engaging activities like playing chess with his Uncle Paul, lining up dominos, and building houses of cards. His love for computers and technology began early and blossomed into a rewarding career, earning him an Associate's degree in computer coding. Mike's creative spirit was not confined to the digital world; he was also a wonderful artist who had a fondness for anime. He enjoyed many PC video games, always playing to win. His favorite shows were Gold Rush and Ancient Aliens, mirroring his love for history, arts, science, and space. Mike was also an accomplished guitarist and an enthusiastic poker player. He was a Boy Scout, a swimmer, a horseback rider, and an unwavering lover of Corvettes.
Mike was a man of incredible loyalty, his devotion to his family was unwavering. His witty and funny nature made him a joy to be around, his love for his family and friends was palpable, and his kind-heartedness was something that will be dearly missed. As Albert Einstein once said, "Creativity is intelligence having fun," and Mike truly embodied this spirit. Even after moving from Winchendon, Massachusetts to Dracut, Massachusetts, then to Palo Alto, California, and finally to Las Vegas, Nevada, Mike's heart always remained with his family and friends in Winchendon.
Mike is survived by his earth angel, Emily Shako, his sister Melissa Christian, his brother Rich Martel, his brother-in-law Nicholas Christian, and his beloved niece and nephew, Ava and Shane Christian, and his beloved dogs Beat and Jake. He was predeceased by his wife Renee Jean (LeCourt) Matthews, they were married on September 10, 2006, and his parents, John and Deborah Matthews. Mike's memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. His life was a testament to the power of laughter, loyalty, intelligence, and creativity.
A calling hour will be held in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central St., Winchendon, MA on Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 11:30 -12:30 p.m. with a funeral service at 12:30, in the funeral home. Michael will be buried privately with his wife and dog Muppin.
