Michael "Max" Maxim

Michael "Max" Maxim, 88 of Lowell, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Friday, October 31, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Shirley Anne (Bruton) Maxim, with whom he shared 65 wonderful years of marriage.

Born on July 26, 1937, in London, England, Max was raised in various orphanages. He graduated from Goldings Trade School in Hertford, England. While attending Goldings the greatest high light of his time there was being a ball boy at Wimbledon for 5 consecutive years. After graduating he began his career as a typesetter before immigrating to the United States.

Max met and married his beloved wife, Shirley, and together they relocated to Suffolk, England, to begin their family. In 1966, they immigrated to the United States, first settling in North Reading before making their home in Lowell in 1968. He worked as a printer at Wolf Composition in Boston, and later for several other printing companies throughout his career.

A social member of Long Meadow Golf Club for many years, Max enjoyed playing golf and was an avid sports enthusiast. A lifelong Tottenham Hotspur supporter, he rarely missed a match. He will be remembered for his cheerful personality, kind heart, and the joy he brought to everyone around him.

In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by his three children: Gavin Maxim of Lowell; Debbie Maxim of Chelmsford; and Steven Maxim and his wife, Maria, of Dracut. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Lauren Forni of Brookline, NH; Slade Forni and his wife, Codi, of Westford; Ashley Pousland and her husband, William, of Litchfield, NH; Michael Anderson and his wife, Ally, of Swampscott; Steven Maxim Jr. of San Diego, CA; and Kyle Maxim and his wife, Marissa, of Bedford.

He leaves behind his great-grandchildren Jax, William, and Cru, as well as his sisters-in-law Paddy Hamblin of Birmingham, England; Lyn Bruton of Little Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, England; and Sheila Bruton of Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, England, along with many nieces and nephews in England.

He was predeceased by his twin brother, Colin Maxim of Witham, Essex, England, and his brothers-in-law Michael Bruton and Barry Bruton.
