Michael J. Maxim, known to many as "Chuggy", 71, of Bourne, passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on Monday, December 8, 2025, following a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Janet (Marotta) Maxim; his children, Jill Nasuti and her husband John of Barrington, RI, Michael Maxim II and his wife Allison of
Mashpee, MA, and Kallie Scarduzio and her husband Michael of Yarmouth, MA; and his six cherished grandchildren, Jacob, Lyla, Zachary, Bradley, Logan, and Landon. He is also survived by his siblings, Robert Allan Maxim and his wife Karen, Charleen Maxim, and William Sturgis; many nephews; and his loyal dog, Bonzie.
He was born on February 13, 1954, to the late Eleanor F. Ringling and Charles H. Maxim, and was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Eleanor P. Harding and Charles D. Harding.
Chuggy's greatest joy in life was his family. He loved nothing more than spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling on family vacations, though he was a homebody at heart. He cherished the home he and his wife built together, which became the center of family gatherings, cookouts, holidays, and countless memories throughout every stage of life.
A lifelong resident of Cape Cod, Chuggy spent countless hours enjoying the outdoors he loved so deeply. Fishing, shellfishing, and hunting were a natural part of who he was, and he could often be found along the canal or out on the boat at his favorite fishing spots. He was a proud member of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe and served on the Tribe's Natural Resource Commission.
Family and friends will remember Chuggy as a wealth of knowledge, a man of remarkable wisdom, and someone with a generous heart. His friends were like family to him. He will be remembered for his kindness, his humor, and the love he gave so freely to those closest to him.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family during visiting hours on Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 11:00 to 12:30 PM at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 74 Algonquin Ave. (RT 151), Mashpee. A funeral service will follow at 12:30 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
