Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brown Funeral Home on Oct. 2, 2024.
With a heavy heart and profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Michael David May, 59, of Corydon, Indiana, on September 29, 2024. In recent months of ill health due to respiratory complications, he was constantly surrounded and supported by beloved family and friends at the end of his life journey.
Michael was born on 3rd of November 1964, in Corydon, Indiana, to the late Paul David and Rosie Florence May. Upon his passing, Michael was a resident of Corydon, but his heart remained in
Milltown, Indiana where he was raised and continued to reside in the family homestead on Main Street in the care and company of his loving and devoted parents until just before their passing in the summer of 2019. Michael attended primary school at Milltown Elementary, and he graduated as valedictorian of Crawford County Jr. Sr. High School in 1983.
As a disciplined and exceptional student, Michael had a lifelong interest in, and proficiency for science, including mathematics, physics, and computer science. He pursued a double major in computer science and mathematics at Indiana University, graduating with the honors of summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa in 1988. Upon graduation, he accepted a role of Systems Engineer at Humana Corporation, and he continued in the employ of the same company for his entire career of 35+ years, until retiring as a Senior Systems Engineer in January of this year.
Michael was raised in the Milltown United Methodist Church and, as a devout Christian, he remained a steadfast and devoted parishioner for many years and, in the later years of his life, he was an active member of the congregation of Unity Chapel Church, in Ramsey, Indiana. Performing various administrative roles and assuming varied responsibilities in the church, Michael offered an abiding commitment of his time and resources which was cherished by all members of the Unity Chapel community. Michael's faith, devotion, and fellowship was, however, not confined to a single church or congregation. His immense personal devotion and faith, and commitment to fellowship served as an everlasting source of spiritual strength for a vast network of those he met, he connected with, and he inspired throughout his life journey.
Michael was an equally earnest and devoted son, brother, and uncle throughout his life, and, in later years, he genuinely cherished and adored each of his three nieces and two grand nieces and grand nephew. As a talented musician and vocalist, he frequently shared his passion for music and the arts with them by attending various events and performances at the Kentucky Center for the Arts and other local venues. He also channelled his passion for music through the church choir and periodic solo performances. Michael was blessed with a rich and varied life, and through the prominent threads of education, work, church and family, he enjoyed a rich tapestry of relationships throughout his life journey, and it is a blessing that each of those relationships will continue to be sustained and nurtured by his spiritual journey beyond.
He is preceded in death by his father, Paul David May, and his mother, Rosie Florence May, and survived by his younger brother, Gregory Alan May (Diane), and younger sister, Paula Suzanne Alexander (Kevin), nieces Lauren Bly, Hannah Murphy, and Samantha May as well as his extended family and an abundance of friends.
Visitation will be held at Unity Chapel Church from 4-8 pm on Friday, October 4, 2024 and from 12-2 pm on Saturday, October 5, 2024, with service beginning immediately thereafter at 2 pm on Saturday. Interment will follow at the Woods Chapel Cemetery, Ramsey, Indiana.
Memorial contributions can be given to the Unity Chapel Church, 1760 Lost Creek Road, N.W., Ramsey, Indiana 47166 and/or Freed From Within, 700 Hwy. 62, Corydon, Indiana 47112.
