Michael G. McDonough was born in the Bronx on August 4, 1937, the son of Anne and Patrick McDonough, Irish immigrants from the County Mayo. The oldest of seven children, he attended St. Mary Nativity Elementary School in Flushing. He earned a scholarship to Bishop Laughlin Memorial High School in Brooklyn. After serving his country in Panama, he used the G.I. bill to obtain a degree in accounting at Hofstra University. Michael and Ann McDonough raised their three children, Mary Ann (Vincent), Michael (Carol), and Christine (John) in Rockville Centre. After working in the private sector as an accountant, he later became a federal IRS agent.
Michael enjoyed many activities such as running, going to the beach, and singing, particularly as a 40 year member of the St. Agnes Choirs. He was very proud of his Irish heritage and was involved in various Irish American societies. A dedicated grandfather to Tara, Sean, Elizabeth, Jenny, Nicole, Alyssa, Angela, Rose, and Michael. Michael was a brand new great grandfather. We know that now he is at peace with his granddaughters, Victoria Faith and Annie Joy. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Heart Association or the Wounded Warrior Project.
