Michael Frederick McHalpine of Madison Heights, Michigan and proud Army veteran, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025.
Mike was born in
Pontiac, Michigan on October 24, 1941 to the late Herbert "Bud" and Thelma McHalpine. He was a 1959 graduate of Bloomfield Hills High School. He served proudly in the United States Army Security Agency from 1964-1968. While serving in Ankara, Turkey, he met the love of his life Delores "Dee" Palumbo, who was posted there with the State Department's USAID. They married in 1967. Mike obtained his bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in 1969 and they started a family.
He spent the majority of his working years in the banking industry, having spent time as a lending officer at Franklin Bank, and spent over 25 years at Comerica Bank as a branch officer. In his free time, Michael always enjoyed golfing, creating stained glass artwork, and traveling.
He will always be remembered as a man who put family first. He was always there for events that happened in his children's and grandchildren's lives, and he cherished the life he had with Dee. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Beloved husband of Dee for 58 years. Loving father of Elizabeth McHalpine and David McHalpine (Sara). Proud grandfather of Clare McHalpine and Andrew McHalpine.
Family will receive friends on Friday, December 19, 2025 from 2:00pm-7:00pm at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home 2600 Crooks Rd (between Maple/Big Beaver)
Troy, MI 48084.
A Sharing of Memories service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 11:00am. Visitation begins at the funeral home at 10:00am.
Inurnment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date with military honors.
