Michael McLellan Obituary

Michael "Mac" McLellan

September 29, 1943 - November 27, 2025

Michael "Mac" Orville McLellan, age 82, of Spooner, died on Thursday, November 27, 2025, in Marshfield, Wisconsin. He was born on September 29, 1943, in Rice Lake, WI to Harold "Bud" and Luella (Buckwheat) McLellan.

Mac was a 1961 Spooner High graduate. He attended Barron County Teachers College, UW River Falls & UW Superior. In his 32-year teaching career, he taught junior high reading and math in Elk Mound and Somerset, where he also served as the assistant basketball coach. The last 25 years of his teaching career were spent in the Northwood School District in Minong & Gordon.

Over a period of 20 years, he was a Northwood union representative and officer on the CUT/NTU boards, a Wisconsin Education Association Council state representative for numerous Representative Assemblies, a state representative at several National Education Association national conventions, and he served on the WEAC Board of Professional Development.

He was very dedicated to his teaching profession & he truly enjoyed teaching. He was also proud of the fact that he never called in sick and that he wore a shirt & tie to school every day. Mac had many side gigs. He tended bar at the Spooner Golf Course, made deliveries for Coca-Cola, worked for American Motors in Kenosha, and had his realtor license.

He was a State Bingo Inspector many years ago & enjoyed traveling to the bingo halls and churches. On occasion he would go with Chuck Trudelle, another bingo inspector, as backup in case of any mischief. He did engraving for Sather's Jewelry in Spooner, and he was the meeter, greeter, newspaper reader, while also assisting the technicians at Shared Medical Technology.

Mac attained the Eagle Scout rank and liked to remind everyone about that achievement. He loved to have a good time and enjoyed racket ball, golf, bowling, biking, downhill skiing, fishing in Canada with his teacher friends, training for and running marathons, long walks with is wife, telling jokes and having a few beers.

He was one of four instigators of the legendary Blacksmith Invitational that drew many friends together at the Spooner Golf Course for 25 years.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, DeeAnn (nee Durand), his sister Pamela (George) Petry, many cousins, numerous nieces, nephews, greats and great greats, and his friends, all of whom miss him & his hearty laugh.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 10-12, at the Spooner Funeral Home in Spooner. Online memories and or condolences may be left at www.bratley-nelsonchapels.com
