Michael A. Michalik, Ph.D
Dr. Michael A. Michalik, a resident of Rockford, passed suddenly into eternal life on Monday, July 15, 2024. He was 76.
Mike was a life-long member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church in Rockford and served as Chairman of the Pastoral Council. He was also a lector at St. Stan’s and participated in and helped organize many of the Parish programs and activities.
Mike was a proud graduate of Boylan High School. He received a BA degree in Business from Northern Illinois University and a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from California School of Professional Psychology. He was a practicing clinical psychologist who worked with adults, children and families in Rockford before his retirement in 2018.
Kind-hearted with an always-positive spirit in matters of church, community and family, one of Mike’s highest priorities was helping others. In a helping experience of a lifetime he served with the humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders where he counseled children and families in war-torn places like Pakistan and the Middle East. Mike considered his overseas service as the pinnacle of his professional career and he was in the process of writing a book about those experiences.
Mike was also an avid cross-country biker who journeyed literally thousands of miles with his biking buddies. He had a special fondness for traveling and hiking the American Southwest.
He is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Stella Michalik and brother-in-law Jim Tulley. He is survived by five siblings and their spouses: Diane May (Owen) of Milwaukee, Sue Tulley of Loves Park, Jim Michalik (Sue) of Rockford, Joe (Asia) of New York City and John (Cheri) of Rockford.
Also survived and loved by Cici (Aunt Fran) and Uncle Jay Bolton of California and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends…including special friend Vicki Turow of Ohio.
