Michael Eugene “Mike” Belk, 78, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away Monday, March 2, 2026, following a brief illness. Surrounded by family in his final days, Mike passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord.
Born in Charlotte and raised in Monroe, Mike was the son of the late Bundy Farice Belk Sr. and Catherine Starnes Belk. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Catherine Belk French; and his grandson, Ethan Riley Belk.
Mike is survived by his three children: Lori Owen (David) of Stella, Micah Belk of Wingate, and Jon Belk (Kimberly) of Wingate. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Tyler Owen, Katie Smith, Wyatt Belk, and Addie Belk; one great-granddaughter, Evie Smith; his former wife and dear friend at the end, Scarlett Belk; his brother, Farice Belk; and several nieces and nephews.
Mike spent more than 40 years in the textile industry, working in sales and later in NASCAR licensing. He proudly built relationships with many major NASCAR teams, helping license bedspreads, sheets, and blankets featuring drivers such as Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Ryan Newman. The friendships he formed during those years were meaningful to him and remained close to his heart.
Mike lived life with passion and determination. He served his state in the North Carolina National Guard, was an avid runner, and generously volunteered his time supporting our troops. Among his proudest accomplishments was qualifying for and completing the 1982 Boston Marathon with an impressive time of 2:58:30.
Those fortunate enough to know Mike were often greeted with a well-timed joke, welcomed to the family home in Emerald Isle, and rarely made it through a summer without enjoying his beloved homegrown tomatoes.
The family is deeply grateful for the many friends who walked alongside their dad throughout his life. Many things can be said about Mike, but all would agree - he lived life his way, right to the very end.
Those wishing to pay their respects are welcome to do so at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112, on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from 10:00AM until 4:00PM. The family will not be present but appreciates the support and prayers shown during this time. A private family service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mike’s memory to USO to continue to stand with those who serve.
