Michael Louis Bissette (Mike), age 71, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 22, 2024. He unexpectedly passed away peacefully while watching the Cowboys play football; one of his favorite pastimes. He grew up on a farm in Bailey where he and his dad worked on their land for many years. Retired from UPS, Mike was an avid sports lover and loved the UNC Tarheels and loved to fish; although his first love was his family and loved ones. He also stayed in close touch through the years with his Rock Ridge High School friends and met with them once a month for dinner at Parker’s. He attended UNC-Chapel Hill and eventually finished his education at Barton College in Wilson, NC. His laugh, presence, and gregarious personality will always be remembered by those who knew him.
Always ready to be Papa Mike’s babysitting service for his five grandkids and show up to their various sporting events and extracurricular activities, Mike’s life was devoted to caring for those he loved most, including his mother, Larue W. Bissette; his life partner, Deborah Morgan; and his children and grandchildren including daughters, Shelley Bissette of Atlantic Beach, NC, Leanne Getz (husband, Adam) of Raleigh, NC, and Craig Bissette (wife, Vici) of Wilson, NC and his five grandchildren, Jackson Bissette, Caleb Getz, Ella Getz, Davis Getz, and his youngest grandson, Lawson Bissette, and a friend and mother of his children, Vickie Macon.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur Bissette of Bailey, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson. A private burial will be held. Rev. Johnny Sullivan will officiate.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
Condolences directed to Joyner’s Funeral Home and Crematory at www.joyners.net.
