Michael (Mike) Cap (94) of Frankfort, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, Michael joined the Army in 1947 and fought courageously in the Korean War from 1950 1951 earning the Bronze Star. His other awards include a Purple Heart, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Korean Service, and United Nations Korean Service. Mike’s main job in the Army was a vehicle mechanic. After his discharge in 1952 Mike held various mechanical jobs making him a “Jack of all Trades”. In 1958 he joined the Machinists Union Local 701and began working for a Dodge dealership in Chicago where he would work for the next 35 years retiring from Mancari’s Chrysler in Oak Lawn. Mike earned several gold tool awards over his years working for the Chrysler Corp. In retirement Mike continued working odd jobs and helping friends and family with their cars. Mike loved his garden and roses as well. In 2017 Mike was able to go on Honor Flight which he was exceptionally proud of and talked about to everyone.

Michael is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Joan Cap nee (D'Allesandro); his children, Annette Overturf, John (Tina) Cap, Michelle Mahal; his grandchildren, Tony (Meghan) Cap, Patrick Harvey, Sean (Nicole) Cap, Bruno Cap; and his great-grandchildren, Lillian Decker, Grayson Cap, AJ Cap, Levi Cap; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 He was preceded in death by his father, John Cap; his mother, Melvina Cap; his daughter, Audrey Cap; and his son in law Ed Overturf. 

The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 65 Old Frankfort Way, Frankfort, IL 60423 on Thursday, March 6th, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 7:00PM. A mass of Christian burial will take place at 10A.M. Friday, March 7th, 2025 St. Anthony Catholic Church 7659 W. Sauk Trail, Frankfort, Illinois, Interment to follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery 20953 W. Hoff rd. Elwood, Illinois
