Michael "Mike" Smith Obituary

Visit the Carson McLane Funeral Home - Valdosta website to view the full obituary.

Michael "Mike" Smith, age 68, of Valdosta, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida, surrounded by his family. Mike spent much of his career as a self-employed contractor along with his brother Greg, in the construction business, where they took pride in their work and craftsmanship. Health challenges eventually led him to step away from the trade he valued.

Mike enjoyed sports, especially NASCAR and football, often sharing these moments with family and friends. These gatherings were important to him and created lasting memories.

He was a devoted family man, married to his wife Tina for 38 years. Mike is survived by Tina Garrett Smith of Valdosta; his son and daughter-in-law, Luke and Kim Bailey of Foley, Alabama; and his grandchildren Makayla, Kyle, Blakely, and Jett Bailey. Also surviving are his brother Greg Smith and Ruth Watson of Lake Park, Georgia; his parents-in-law Ed and Jency Ray and B.E. Garrett of Lenox, Georgia; his sisters-in-law Tonya Jones of Jacksonville, FL, and Tracy Garrett of Lenox, GA; his nephew Blake Smith and his wife Mia of Athens, Georgia; and his niece Jade Johnson and her husband Timothy of Cartersville, Georgia.

He was preceded in death by his son Garrett Bailey, his parents Henry Grady Smith and Elizabeth Johnson Smith, and his brother Grady "Bubba" Smith, Jr.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends and family are welcome to attend to honor Mike’s life.

The family appreciates the support and memories shared during this time. Mike’s dedication to his work, family, and simple joys will be remembered by all who knew him.
