It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Scott Miller on December 21, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Michael was born on February 21, 1964, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Teela and James L. Miller Sr.
Michael was known for having a huge heart for everyone he considered family or friend. He loved to show acts of kindness and support to others by being of service. Whether it was helping take out the trash, carrying groceries, or simply being a helpful hand, Michael’s life purpose was to be a help to others. There wasn’t a waking moment when he was not assisting someone with odd jobs or simple tasks.
He was well known around his neighborhood for cleaning local business lots, doing odd jobs for small business owners, and simply looking out for the locals in the area. He was never afraid to do the unwanted jobs that others deemed beneath them. Michael had a love of laboring for others. He loved to cut grass before and clean up the street after the Fourth of July fireworks. He was always a helping hand with setting up for family parties and barbecues.
You could often find him sitting at the card table or domino table, telling everyone he was going to “beat the brakes off” of them. Michael was the life of the party—forever telling jokes and playing the dozens with family. He was always the person to get the party started. You knew a good time would be had if Michael was present. A diligent and hard worker at whatever you needed done, he always put his best work forward.
Michael is survived by his daughters: KaNiesha Miller (Minnesota), Brittany Miller-Tart (Minnesota), and Ronisha Miller (Kansas City, Missouri); his sisters: Rhonda Miller (Kansas City, Missouri), Alicia Williams (David) (Kansas City, Missouri), Lois Carr (Diya) (Kansas City, Missouri), and Geneva Miller (Kansas City, Missouri); and his brother: James C. Miller Jr. (Regina) (Kansas City, Missouri). He is also survived by six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one great-great-grandchild, and a host of nephews, nieces, extended family, and friends.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, James L. Miller Sr. (Arkansas); his mother, Teela L. Miller (Kansas City, Missouri); and his sister, Lorita Miller (Kansas City, Missouri).
