Michael Moller Obituary

Visit the Mt. Taylor Funerals & Cremations website to view the full obituary.

Michael King Moller, 84, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, passed away peacefully in hospice care on December 26, 2025. He was born on November 14, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, to Ann Horalek and Tully Shaw. Michael was lovingly raised by his grandmother, Mary Horalek, along with his adoptive parents, Mary Horalek Moller and Albert Moller, who instilled in him the values of kindness and hard work that guided him throughout his life.

In 1959, Michael joined the U.S. Army and proudly served two terms. His military service gave him a treasure of stories and memories from his travels overseas that he enjoyed sharing with family and friends. After returning home, he built a dedicated career as a plumber. In 1987, he moved to Gallup, New Mexico, where he began working with Dallago Corporation, a position he held with great pride for many years. Michael spent most of his life in Gallup, building lasting friendships and strong community ties, before moving to Rio Rancho in July 2019.

In 1988, Michael met the love of his life, Eleanor Helen Moller. Together, they shared 37 wonderful years filled with laughter, adventures, and faith. Michael was an active member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, where he volunteered with the Little Sisters of the Poor, often baking for their events and fundraisers.

Michael is survived by his son, Clay Moller; stepchildren Bernadine Dallago, Jerry Garcia, and Joey Garcia; step-grandchildren Monica Dallago, Dona Medina, Mark Dallago, Cristian Garcia, and Vanessa Garcia; step-great-grandchildren Noah Medina, Ezra Medina, and Joshua Medina; and sister, Sally Moller Ketterl. He was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Moller and parents.

Those who knew Michael will remember him best in the kitchen, where he created his famous povitica, biscochitos, orange cookies, and sweet breads using recipes passed down from his grandmother Mary. He also enjoyed reading Tony Hillerman's Westerns and tending his garden. His kindness, warmth, and generosity will live on through the family traditions he cherished.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Gallup, New Mexico, followed by burial at Gallup State Veteran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor.
