Michael Molter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Downs Funeral Home - Superior on Jan. 17, 2026.
Michael Fred Molter, age 72, of Danbury, WI, formerly of Brooklyn Park, MN, passed away at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, MN on January 16, 2026 with his family by his side.

Mike was born April 23, 1953 to Mary (Joy) and Fred Molter. He attended Cathedral High School in Superior, Wisconsin where he met his high school sweetheart, Ann Doyle. In 1971, Mike enlisted in the Navy, ultimately serving as a Quartermaster on the USS Norton Sound (AVM-1). He was especially proud of assisting a US senator to propel onto the ship from a helicopter during his service.

Mike and Ann were married June 3, 1972; the newlyweds quickly began life together in Southern California, eventually settling in Oxnard, CA with their three beautiful daughters, Carey, Cristy, and Mary. After over 20 years, the family returned to the Midwest and settled in Brooklyn Park, MN. Upon Ann's passing in 2017, also on January 16 ,Mike retired from his career in engineering to his beloved lake home in Voyager Village, WI.

Mike was a dedicated San Diego Chargers fan and relished a round of golf whenever the opportunity arose, he was also an avid fisherman. He loved music, especially Led Zeppelin and jazz. He was proud of a special opportunity he had to play Für Elise in an Irish castle. In recent years, Mike enjoyed an episode of Big Bang Theory for a laugh, loved the thrill of a good Louie L'Amour western, and found joy in trying out new recipes. He loved his girls and his family deeply; he showed up for the people who mattered to him, even as his health challenges made it more difficult to do so.

Mike was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ann; his parents, Joy and Fred; and by three siblings, Charles, Patricia and Terrence Molter.

Mike is survived by his three daughters, Carey Molter (California), Cristy Molter (Wisconsin), and Mary (Alistair) Hall (Minnesota); three granddaughters, Sierra Molter and Mara and Logan Hall; and two siblings, James Molter and Mary (Molter) Hunter; And many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at 10:00 am until the 11:30 am Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, January 20th at the Cathedral of Christ the King. Rosary Service by the Catholic Daughters of America will be at 10:30 am.

Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Superior, with Military Honors accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.
