David Molter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ciavarelli Family Funeral Home and Crematory - Ambler on Jan. 15, 2026.
David L. Molter of Ambler, PA, passed away peacefully at home on January 9, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on July 27, 1944, to Harold and Jane (Sentman) Molter, he grew up in Abington and graduated from Abington High School in 1962. After studying graphic arts at the Rochester Institute of Technology and serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, David embarked on a lifelong career in the graphic arts industry, retiring in 2012.
A box of motorcycle parts gifted by a neighbor served as the catalyst for David's artistic life. After teaching himself to assemble the bike at age 14, he spent his 20s exploring aesthetics through customizing motorcycles and learning welding to realize his designs. David's artistic evolution reached a turning point during his studies with Harold Kimmelman, where he began translating his technical skill into sculptural expression. David received both public and private commissions for his art and continued sculpting until his death.
David's passion for art was matched by his love for the sea. He was a seasoned sailor who logged many hours exploring everything from the New Jersey coastline to the Chesapeake Bay and down through the Florida Keys and Caribbean.
Known for his sharp wit and infectious humor, David left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was a gifted wordsmith who found great joy in corresponding with friends and family through his famously entertaining letters. David's passing leaves the world a bit dimmer, but his spirit lives on in the many lives he touched.
David is survived by his wife Kathryne Zulak, his stepchildren Roman Zulak and Lecia Zulak, along with his cousin Norman Molter and Norman's wife, Marlene.
Relatives and friends are invited to Celebrate David's Life at noon, February 6, Angelo's Italian Kitchen, Horsham, PA. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.ciavarellifuneralhomes.com

Kate,
That write up does say it all. Dave was an amazing guy and those words truly describe him to the T. I first met Dave I´m guessing about 40 years ago when he lived on Highland Ave in Jenkintown. I had been referred by a mutual friend to do some electrical work for him. As in hook up a hot tub. My first impression with the yellow motor cycle in the living room was the impression that stuck with me as you´ve described, very creative. Who puts a motorcycle in their living room. Dave does. With the exception of the mustache, which took me to thinking, "This Guy must be part of the ZZ Top band". Well that started the relationship that I had with Dave. The long witty talks in the driveway at 2459 led to him inviting me sailing on the Barnegat Bay. That day inspired me to get back into sailing. From then on Dave was now not just Dave, but my good friend Sailboat Dave.
I will miss him terribly.
When I´m on the water I truly know that he will be right there with me at the helm.
